Source-to-Target Mapping for Oracle (STM-O)
The Starschema's STM-O product is a complete solution for the Oracle Database which analyzes and creates the description of any dataflow executed by SQL or PL/SQL command from source to target.
The final output of the STM-O is a specified set of metadata or rather reports based on this aggregation, which describe the route of the data travelled in the database while being processed.
The smallest (record level) elements describe the role of the database table-field in a dataload phase (source or destination), or rather the transformations made between the two states.
Merging these primary units makes possible the visualization of the whole dataload route. So Oracle DBAs, developers, auditors or consultants can easily and efficiently resolve the following tasks:
- allocating the roots of datafaults appearing in the database
- defining the datacycle dependencies
- impact analysis of the changes made in the datasource
- specifying frequently used data
- estimating the resources and costs of shifting technology or methodology
In the fist step the STM-O code parsing segment receives the code as a text file and processes it via advanced text analyzing or rather parsing algorithms.
With that, the processed codes get loaded into the STM-O database (Oracle 9i or higher version), where as the result of further processing the loading procedures' contexts are set.
On-demand the following useful functions can be integrated into the STM-O:
- Tool for querying the codes of stored procedures
Extracts and hands over the code of stored procedures using the exact format expected by the STM-O.
- Oracle Audit switch on and audit trail querying tool
Turns on and sets the Oracle audit to the desired level, and after an adequate period extracts a set of codes which illustrates the usage of the database and hands over to the STM-O in the expected format.
- Add-ons for the code analyzing segment
The structure of the STM-O allows the integration of other (not SQL - PL/SQL based) dataflow analyzing modul. On-demand it can be adapted for analyzing data movements made by Business Objects Data Integrator, Oracle Warehouse Builder or SAP ABAP.
Interpreting and reporting metadata The reports required for the efficient use of metadata can be visualized in any SQL based reporting system, like Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Discoverer or Cognos.
